Is the Law of Attraction
Working For You?

Ok…. right. The ever popular “Law of Attraction”. Everybody’s talking about it. Everybody understands it, right? I mean, I watched “The Secret”… I’ve seen it all over the Oprah Show.

That which you put your energy, focus and attention on, you will manifest in your life.

Yeah . . . you attract what you want in your life.

Right? Great. Simple. Got it. Moving on . . .

Um… then, why don’t I have exactly what I want in my life? Why am I still confused?!

The “Law of Attraction” is such a huge concept. It has taken me years of learning and practice to begin to grasp it. I do believe in it. I believe it can be a powerful tool to help you manifest what you want in your life. You just need to understand the basics and begin to apply them to yourself.

Let me try to break it down more simply.

Some of the earliest literature published about the “Law of Attraction” principle dates back to 1902.

“As A Man Thinketh” by James Allen states,
“The soul attracts that which it secretly harbors, that which it loves, and also that which it fears. It reaches the height of its cherished aspirations. It falls to the level of its unchastened desires… and circumstances are the means by which the soul receives its own.”

In other words, you get what you think about!

Wanted or unwanted, consciously or subconsciously, you will attract what you put your energy and focus on.

It helps to think of yourself as a living magnet. All forms of energy and matter are attracted to that which is of a like vibration. You will attract that which is like you; that which thinks like you, acts like you, operates like you!

So, that’s easy, right? Because we always know exactly what we want… and we always act in accordance right?!

Right. So, there’s the reality check. It works on EVERY thought, EVERY action you have. Just think about that for a minute. . . positive attracts positive, negative attracts negative. Are most of your thoughts and actions positive or negative?

After not skiing for years, I decided to go on a ski trip with my new beloved boyfriend. I used to be quite a good skier and told my new boyfriend that I was quite good. Yeah, well… that was 10 years ago. Somehow, I discredited the knee surgeries and aging as detrimental factors and thought I’d get right back on those downhill trails like jumping back onto a bike. We went straight to the intermediate slope just to “warm up”. As soon as I stood up from the chairlift and felt the unstable snowy world under my skis, I knew I was in trouble. Unable to put my ego aside, I pointed my skis down the hill and began thinking to myself over and over “just stay out of the trees… just stay out of the trees”. What did the universe give me? Exactly what I was focusing on. Yep. The TREES… and a big old purple bruise that I would have to deal with later that night when it was time for the hot tub.

I know now that if I had just focused on turning my skis, gliding on the snow and cutting the edges, I would have been much more successful! If only I had focused on the space between the trees instead of those darn trees. It’s a different way of looking at things. It requires training your thought patterns to focus only on what you DO want… and how to get it. The universe doesn’t KNOW what you want… it doesn’t discern between your positive or negative thoughts. It just gives you back what you give out. Send out positive thoughts . . . you get positive back.

Ok… so, now I understand the idea and it’s still a challenge!

It’s a practice, a discipline to do it everyday… every minute. The good news is, it doesn’t require perfection . . . you’ll realize just by beginning the practice, you’ll see a difference.

You are what you think…

That’s right! You are what you BELIEVE yourself to be. Not what you want to be… hope to be… or plan to be. Your hoping and planning days are O-VER!

Determine what you are focusing on.

Is it the trees… or the spaces? What are you putting out there into the universe? Are you putting any energy towards what you want? Are you ASKING for what you want? Even more to the point:

Do you know what you want?

Take the time to declare what you want. Be specific and detailed about your vision. Concentrate on what makes you feel good and start shutting down the thoughts that make you feel bad.

When you begin to be aware, you will see a difference!
